Wilma M. Virnich, age 85, of Stone Lake, WI passed away on Sunday, November 24th in West Bend, WI.

Wilma Marilyn was born July 1, 1928 in Chicago, IL the daughter of William and Elsie (Oechslin) Martens. In her youth she was a huge Mickey Mouse fan and from this her nickname, Mousie, began. Wilma graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee. On October 23, 1954 Wilma was joined in marriage to George Duwaine Virnich in Chicago. Wilma M. Virnich, age 85, of Stone Lake, WI passed away on Sunday, November 24th in West Bend, WI.

Wilma Marilyn was born July 1, 1928 in Chicago, IL the daughter of William and Elsie (Oechslin) Martens. In her youth she was a huge Mickey Mouse fan and from this her nickname, Mousie, began. Wilma graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee. On October 23, 1954 Wilma was joined in marriage to George Duwaine Virnich in Chicago. She was a devoted wife and mother to her family. Her dream in life was to move to the Northwoods where she could enjoy the beauty of God's creation. Wilma and George fulfilled this dream when they moved to Stone Lake, WI. She loved to get out on Big Sissabagama Lake in her wooden canoe where she could be quietly immersed in nature. Wilma was a tireless student of all wildlife including plants, animals, insects and birds, and served as a Loon Ranger for over 20 years. As a published author, she memorialized many of her favorite memories in, "Remembering Childhood Summers on Big Sissabagama". Wilma was a deeply religious person and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayward, WI. She was a key contributor to the Stone Lake Historical Society and served as a docent at the museum.

Wilma is survived by her two sons, Stephen Virnich of Neenah, WI, Andrew (Rebecca) Virnich of West Bend, WI; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Catherine, Margaret Virnich; sister-in-law, Emily Martens; and nephew, Gregory (Donna) Martens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George and one brother, William Martens.

A funeral service celebrating Wilma's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayward. Pastor Mark Tripplett and Pastor Kenneth Hinrichs will officiate the service. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Stone Lake, WI.
