Wayne Gutsch, age 63, of Hayward, WI passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Wayne Donald Gutsch was born May 4, 1948 in Eau Claire, WI the son of Willard and Olga (Oium) Gutsch. As soon as Wayne was old enough to hold a fishing pole, his Dad taught him how to fish. In 1966, Wayne graduated as class President from Eau Claire North High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. During the Viet Nam era, he worked as a machinist at Presto in Eau Claire, making ammunition to support the war efforts. In 1975, Wayne used the knowledge gained from his Dad and started making his own fishing baits in the basement of his parent's home. In 1977, Wayne completely committed to his love of fishing when he moved to Hayward and started guiding on the Hayward area lakes. Soon after he opened the "Gooch Tackle Company". The first bait that Wayne marketed and sold was the "Gooch Bucktail", followed by the famous "Tallywacker" musky bait. Besides being a popular Hayward area musky guide, Wayne loved fishing, hunting, golf, photography, bowling, pool, and darts. He was a member of Hayward Guide Service and Ducks Unlimited, a fishing guide for the Hayward Chapter of Fishing Has No Boundaries, and was a Past President of the Hayward Chapter of Muskies, Inc.
