Nola Irene Carlson of Hayward, WI passed away peacefully at her home from a long heart illness on February 1, 2013.

Nola was born on June 2, 1935 to Martin and Maggie (Adkins) Wagoner. She grew up on a farm on Range Line Road in Crandon, WI. She was the youngest of ten children. In 1954, Nola married Gordon R. Schulz. Together they owned and operated Squaw Bay Lodge on the Chippewa Flowage. They sold the resort in 1973 and moved into town. As their children grew she was a Sunday School teacher at...

Nola Irene Carlson of Hayward, WI passed away peacefully at her home from a long heart illness on February 1, 2013.

Nola was born on June 2, 1935 to Martin and Maggie (Adkins) Wagoner. She grew up on a farm on Range Line Road in Crandon, WI. She was the youngest of ten children. In 1954, Nola married Gordon R. Schulz. Together they owned and operated Squaw Bay Lodge on the Chippewa Flowage. They sold the resort in 1973 and moved into town. As their children grew she was a Sunday School teacher at the Congregational Church for many years and was also very active in 4-H and the Girl Scouts. She worked for 20 years as a nurse's assistant at the Hayward Hospital and also worked for Sawyer County Public Health. In 2002, Nola married Bertil Carlson. Together they lived on the Chippewa Flowage and started the best years of her life.

Nola is survived by her best friend and husband, Bertil Carlson; three daughters, Dara Lynn (Donovan) Stone, Becky (Jim) Boyle, Cindy (Vince) Yackley; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Nola's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, at Spider Lake Church in Hayward with Pastor Gary Hilgendorf officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Interment will be at a later time in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
