Leonard Arvid Nelson Jr. age 86, of Hayward, WI passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Middle River Health & Rehab of South Range, WI.

Leonard was born March 31, 1925 in Chicago, IL the son of Leonard A. and Anne (Musial) Nelson Sr. He graduated from high school in Freeport, IL and then served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1946 earning the American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal. Leonard Arvid Nelson Jr. age 86, of Hayward, WI passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Middle River Health & Rehab of South Range, WI.

Leonard was born March 31, 1925 in Chicago, IL the son of Leonard A. and Anne (Musial) Nelson Sr. He graduated from high school in Freeport, IL and then served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1946 earning the American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal. Leonard married Shirley Jean Sieffert on October 5, 1946 in Freeport, IL. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage together. He owned and operated Olen Lee Men's Clothing Stor in Freeport. In 1960 he started his first Laundromat in Hayward and then built another in Spooner in 1963. Between 1960 and 1963 he traveled upper Wisconsin, upper Michigan, and upper Minnesota selling and setting up Laundromats. Leonard also was a fishing guide and enjoyed fishing and hunting. When he was living in Finland, MN he loved flying his own airplane.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley; one son, Greg Nelson of Superior, WI; one daughter, Janice Nelson of Hayward, WI; three grandchildren, Nick Giagnoni, Ashley Sheffield, Gary Sheffield Jr.; nine sisters-in-law: Carol Mohr of Clinton, IA, Betsy (Tim) Solbrig of Davenport, IA, Peggy (Steve) LaForge of Rockton, IL, Nancy Robison of Milan, IL, Ginny (Bill) Kussner of Davis, IL, Emily (Todd) McCarthy of Beaver Dam, WI, Teresa (John) Topham of WV, Barbara (John) Fisher of Mackinac Island, MI, Judy Nelson of Wauwatosa, WI and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard.
