Leon F. Pastika, 81, of Hayward passed away peacefully Thursday September 1, 2011 at his home. Leon was born December 4, 1929 in Rice Lake to the late Charles and Irene (Pearson) Pastika. Leon married Betty Ann Haws October 15, 1955.

Leon graduated 1948 from the Hayward High School and joined the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge. In 1950 Leon returned home to run the family business. Leon and Betty bought Pastika's Sportings Goods from his Dad Charles in 1957 and retired in 1997.

Leon F. Pastika, 81, of Hayward passed away peacefully Thursday September 1, 2011 at his home. Leon was born December 4, 1929 in Rice Lake to the late Charles and Irene (Pearson) Pastika. Leon married Betty Ann Haws October 15, 1955.

Leon graduated 1948 from the Hayward High School and joined the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge. In 1950 Leon returned home to run the family business. Leon and Betty bought Pastika's Sportings Goods from his Dad Charles in 1957 and retired in 1997.

Leon enjoyed working at the bait shop; he worked tirelessly seven days a week often working from sun up to sun down. Leon loved to talk to all his customers and strived to provide them with the highest quality bait and offer them the latest tips and tricks on how to catch fish. Leon enjoyed the outdoors and he shared that enthusiasm with family by teaching his son Lee how to hunt and fish. Leon taught fly tying at WITC in Rice Lake. He also custom made special order Buck Tails for several local resorts. Leon enjoyed cooking and baking in his later years.

Among those who survive and gratefully shared his life is his three children: Kay (Kevin) Pope of Ross, CA; Kelly Pastika of Hayward, WI; Lee (Jamie) Pastika of Mosinee, WI: four granddaughters: Lindsey, Kelsey, Mackenzie, Sara; one brother: Dr. Charles Pastika of Palintine, IL; 1 sister-in-law Judy (Norman) Thorson of Exeland, WI.

He is preceded in death by his wife: Betty Pastika 2005; sister-in-law: Maddelena Pastika 2001.

Mass of Christian will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home and again on Wednesday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
