Joseph Barbieri, age 54, of Gurnee, IL passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

Joseph John James Barbieri was born January 11, 1959 in Bronx, NY. He was raised in New York and worked part time so he could raise the tuition for Cardinal-Hayes High School, a private Catholic school in the Bronx. Joseph Barbieri, age 54, of Gurnee, IL passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

Joseph John James Barbieri was born January 11, 1959 in Bronx, NY. He was raised in New York and worked part time so he could raise the tuition for Cardinal-Hayes High School, a private Catholic school in the Bronx. After school he began his career in the banking industry. Throughout his career Joe was always dedicated to his work and driven to succeed. He worked in numerous areas of the banking industry primarily as Senior Vice President in international trade. He was an active member of International Financial Services Association. While working, Joe attended college at night and after 11 years earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1991. On July 27, 1986 Joe was joined in marriage to Susan S. Boguski in Brooklyn, NY. Together they moved to many states where Joe's career took them. Currently they were living in Gurnee, IL.

He was a member of the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Gurnee, IL where he was active with youth ministry. Joe also served as a volunteer for Star Hospice in Illinois. He enjoyed playing tennis, backpacking, yoga, exercising and going out on the pontoon at the cabin on the Tiger Cat Flowage. He was an avid New York Jets, Knicks and Mets fan. Joseph was a very dedicated husband and father.

Joe is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan; two daughters, Kara and Elaina; one brother, Patrick Barbieri; one sister, Joanne Barbieri; two nieces and two nephews; and his beloved dog, Daisy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Barbieri; mother, Anna (McNiff) Gormaley; and one brother, Raymond.

A Celebration of Joseph's Life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 19 at St. Paul The Apostle Church in Gurnee, Il with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Doctors Without Boarders, Feeding America, Oxfam International, or The Sierra Club.
