Her death was preceded by a courageous decision to forego treatment for liver cancer, so as to be able to spend quality time for her remaining days with her family and friends.
Jackie was the only child of Hazel Felice Paramore (nee RolIings) and Leslie Ellison Paramore. She was born in Lamar, Colorado on January 12, 1942. Soon thereafter, she and her parents moved to Albuquerque, NM and in 1945 they moved to Kansas City, Kansas. She attended Parker Grade School, Northwest and West Junior High Schools, graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1960 and received a Bachelor of Music Education in 1965 and a Master of Music in 1968 from Kansas State College at Pittsburg, KS (now PSU) where she was also an accompanist for the music department.
While in high school she was a charter member of the Youth Symphony of Kansas City, and played with the Conservatory Concert Band (KC, MO) and the Kansas City, KS Civic Symphony. As an active member at Western Highlands Presbyterian Church, she played piano for various Sunday school classes, and sang in the choir. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout and also in Job's Daughters.
Jackie married Gary Lee Martin in 1965, divorced in 1966; remarried Gary in 1968 and divorced in 1984.
She taught public school music for 3 years in Kansas before moving to Maryland in 1968 where she was co-founder of the Columbia (Maryland) Concert Band, a Brownie leader and a church organist in Washington, DC and Columbia, MD. She played reeds in several `pit orchestras" in and around the Baltimore/Washington, DC area.
In 1979 the family moved to Las Cruces, NM where she taught public school music, was a church organist, was pianist for the Las Cruces Community Theatre (where she was a lifetime member), accompanied students at spring festivals, was a girl scout leader, and a chaperone for Las Cruces High School students at speech/debate tournaments throughout NM and TX. For several years in the early1990s Jackie was NM Brain Injury Foundation Awareness chairman and organized and spoke at various conferences for teachers and school nurses. She retired from teaching in 1998.
In 2000 Jackie moved to St. Paul, MN and soon thereafter Cottage Grove, MN where she was organist/pianist/instrumental director at Zion Lutheran Church. She became a `BeFriender", an active member of TOPS Club 714, and enjoyed the church book club. Since 2008 she always looked forward to being an election judge in Washington, Co, MN. She was often called upon to play for various school choirs in Cottage Grove.
During the spring of 2011 she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She then moved to Hayward, WI to be closer to her family. Since her diagnosis in early 2011, Jackie used CaringBridge.com to update, connect with and support her many friends, family, followers and fans.
