Hildegarde Strouf, age 90, died on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Ladysmith Care and Rehab in Ladysmith, Wisconsin.
Hildegarde was born on August 29, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas E. and Lucille R. Noyes, the first editor and publisher of the Sawyer County Gazette. Hildegarde began working with her parents at the newspaper during her high school years. She graduated from Winter High School in 1940. Hildegarde Strouf, age 90, died on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Ladysmith Care and Rehab in Ladysmith, Wisconsin.
Hildegarde was born on August 29, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas E. and Lucille R. Noyes, the first editor and publisher of the Sawyer County Gazette. Hildegarde began working with her parents at the newspaper during her high school years. She graduated from Winter High School in 1940. Upon completion of high school she began work as a telephone operator in Hayward, Wisconsin, as a nurse's aid in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on the Winter School Lunch Program and also at the Winter Fair Store. Hildegarde was united in marriage to Edward E. Strouf in 1951. The couple resided in Winter where they owned a construction business and Hildegarde continued to work at the Sawyer County Gazette. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Winter.
Hildegarde is preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, and nephew John Martin.
Hildegarde is survived by her nephew Terry (Cora) Strouf of Ojibwa, niece and former business associate Susan (Phil) Martin Thompson of Exeland, Wisconsin, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Hildegarde Strouf will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 11 am, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Winter with Pastor Terri Blomberg officiating. Music will be provided by organist Anna Suzan and soloists: Susan Thompson, Rae Marie Buckwheat, and Taylor Biller. Visitation will be at the Church on Wednesday, from 10-11 am. Interment will follow at the Winter Cemetery next to her husband Edward. Casket bearers will be Dave Biller, Marcus Biller, John Burt, Dan Martin, Terry Strouf Sr., and Terry Strouf Jr. Online condolences may be left at www.andersonnathan.com
