Smitty was born in Ladysmith, WI on July 23, 1924 Lucy (Diamond) Smith. He graduated from Ladysmith High School, and joined the Navy at Great Lakes. He served as a mechanic on an aircraft carrier. He proudly served during WWII and the Korean War. He had stations around the world including Japan. He lived in Rockford, IL where he married Martha Zinke and they were together for 48 years until she passed. In 1987 he retired and moved to Couderay, WI where he met Shirley Lehmann in 1996. Together they had 10 wonderful years with her until she passed in 2006. Smitty had a zest for life; he loved to share his life stories with friends. People always remembered him. He couldn't go anywhere without meeting someone who knew him or his grandfather, John Diamond; a dedicated surveyor. Harry was a member to the Fraternal Order of Eagles. In his younger days he loved flying his own plane. Smitty enjoyed fishing, time at the casino playing slots and Black Jack, and spending many hours on his computer
Left to cherish his memories are his two cousins Jean and Peg; and many family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucy; wife, Martha and Shirley.
A service to honor Harry's life will be held at the Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home in Hayward, WI on Thursday July 18 at 11 am. Visitation to start one hour prior to service.
