Gerald Thiry, age 75, of Hayward, WI died on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

Gerald Joseph Thiry was born on April 17, 1936 in Pine City, MN, the son of Leo and Lydia Thiry. He graduated from Pine City High School and then spent two years in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, he worked running the blacktop hot mix plant in Osseo, MN. Gerald then entered and graduated from court reporting school in Minneapolis. Gerald Thiry, age 75, of Hayward, WI died on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

Gerald Joseph Thiry was born on April 17, 1936 in Pine City, MN, the son of Leo and Lydia Thiry. He graduated from Pine City High School and then spent two years in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, he worked running the blacktop hot mix plant in Osseo, MN. Gerald then entered and graduated from court reporting school in Minneapolis. In 1962, he became a court reporter in Hayward, a job he held until his retirement in 1989.

Gerald loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting fishing, hiking, biking, golfing, target shooting, and bow hunting. He was a Life and Endowment member of the NRA as well as a member of various other hunting organizations. He also had membership in Registers in Probate as well as National and State Court Reporting organizations and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Janet of Hayward, WI; his five children: Gregory (Debbie) Thiry of Sun Prairie, WI, Denise (Mark) Ziperski of New Auburn, WI, Lynnette (Dan) Phillips of Minong, WI, Drey (Sara) Thiry and Shane (Melissa) Thiry, both of Hayward, WI; fourteen grandchildren with a fifteenth on the way; and three brothers: Robert and Harold (Jenny) Thiry, both of Pine City, MN and Allen (Sue) Thiry of Grand Rapids, MN and Albuquerque, NM.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Eleanor, Bernice and Alyce Jean; and two brothers: Leo and Richard.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
