Gene G. Gruel, age 74, of Cable, WI passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at his home.

Gene Gerald Gruel was born October 5, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI. He was raised on the family farm in southern Wisconsin and graduated from high school in Waukesha, WI. Gene joined the U.S. Army on July 15, 1956 and served during the Korean Conflict. His family purchased the Bobin Resort near Cable, WI and Gene moved to Cable to work with them after his time in the service. Gene was joined in marriage to Judie Thistle....

Gene G. Gruel, age 74, of Cable, WI passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at his home.

Gene Gerald Gruel was born October 5, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI. He was raised on the family farm in southern Wisconsin and graduated from high school in Waukesha, WI. Gene joined the U.S. Army on July 15, 1956 and served during the Korean Conflict. His family purchased the Bobin Resort near Cable, WI and Gene moved to Cable to work with them after his time in the service. Gene was joined in marriage to Judie Thistle. Gene began logging and operating a sawmill in Cable. He moved onto excavating work for Babe Moore until Gene started his own excavating business, Gene Gruel Excavating. Gene operated this business for more than 30 years in the Cable area. Gene was a hard worker who enjoyed fixing his equipment and splitting firewood. He will be remembered by his family for his sense of humor and practical jokes.

Gene is survived by his two children, Rick (Darla) Gruel of Seeley, WI, Deborah Gruel of Minneapolis, MN; two grandchildren, Erik and Elizabeth Gruel; two brothers, Ray (Georgette) Gruel of Frederic, WI, and Roy Gruel of Hawkins, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Blanch Gruel.

Casket bearers will be Dick Biscobing, James Gray, David Hanks, Don Henderson, Don Jalowitz and Brett Rondeau.

A funeral service celebrating Gene's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 30th, at Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home in Hayward with Pastor Scott Ludford officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI. Military honors will be accorded by the Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program.
