Eugene J. Pfankuch, age 84, of Hayward, WI and formerly of Lake Hallie and Eau Claire, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at his home.

Eugene James Pfankuch was born April 19, 1927 in Eau Claire, WI the son of Herman and Bertha (Luedtke) Pfankuch. While attending school Gene worked as a Western Union Messenger after school and during the summers. He graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1945. Gene worked for National Presto Industries and Hobbs Supply of Eau Claire before going to Crawsfordville, IN where he attended Western Union School....

Eugene J. Pfankuch, age 84, of Hayward, WI and formerly of Lake Hallie and Eau Claire, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at his home.

Eugene James Pfankuch was born April 19, 1927 in Eau Claire, WI the son of Herman and Bertha (Luedtke) Pfankuch. While attending school Gene worked as a Western Union Messenger after school and during the summers. He graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1945. Gene worked for National Presto Industries and Hobbs Supply of Eau Claire before going to Crawsfordville, IN where he attended Western Union School. On October 19, 1949 Gene was joined in marriage to Lucille Fern Perry in Hayward, WI. Gene became a Relief Operator for the Minneapolis District of Western Union until he was assigned as Relief Manager for the district. Gene and Lucille moved to Hayward in 1985 after his retirement from Western Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the Packers. His children will always remember the numerous camping trips Gene took them on.

Gene is survived by his five sons: Ralph (Jean), Ronald (Pam), both of Chippewa Falls, WI, Edward (Bobbi) of Superior, WI, Kenneth (Margaret) of South Range, WI, Daniel (Lynda) of Rice Lake, WI; four daughters: Sally Simmerman of Marietta, GA, Emily Linder, Lisa (Preston) Overshiner both of Superior, Betty (Tony) Kleutsch of Brule, WI; ten grandchildren; many great grandchildren; one brother, Louis (Lora) Pfankuch of San Bruno, CA; one sister, Nancy (James) Spielman of Jim Falls, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lucille.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward with Father Philip Juza officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.

Casket bearers will be his grandchildren.
