Calvin Lynn Spangler was born on June 1, 1955, in Janesville, WI, to parents Hillman and Iva Mae (Curtis) Spangler. He grew up in Rockford, IL, where he graduated from Rockford West High School, and attended Northland College for Culinary Arts. Calvin was well known in the Cable area as "Uncle Sam" because for many years, he attended the 4th of July parade in an Uncle Sam outfit, complete with walking on stilts! He also has touched numerous buildings and homes in the Cable area with his fantastic dry walling, varnishing, and painting skills. Calvin has worked in various bars and restaurants in the Namakagon area, with "The Loon Saloon" being the last location. Calvin loved to build bonfires, hike, canoe, read, boat, and cook, but he especially enjoyed the company of his many caring, giving friends.

Calvin is survived by his brother Curt (Carol) Spangler of Roscoe, IL; sister Cathi Popelka of Plano, TX; niece Amy (Ed) Phillip and their children Isiah and Aubrey of Rockford, IL; nephew Jon Markell of Rockford, IL; niece Deborah Peterson of Rockford, IL; and many friends.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents.
